"An assured debut feature with a superb performance from Luke Mably — it makes The Apprentice look like Blue Peter."

"The tale is ingeniously developed, the suspense well maintained, and you'll think more highly of it if you have to leave five minutes before the disappointing pay-off."

Time Out
Nigel Floyd
"Plot twists, lighting changes and shifts of tone work hard to sustain our attention, but the script sometimes becomes too involved in solving the structural challenges it has set itself. This distracts us from the characters themselves, as what started out as a short film stretches its material and our credulity to the limit."

"The movie feels a bit like an overstretched short film, but Hazeldine works hard to keep the tension up."

Nicholas Barber
"This low-budget British chamber piece has an intriguing scenario, so it's a shame that the po-faced, sci-fi-tinged screenplay fixates on the applicants' efforts to detect invisible ink on their exam papers. "

"I can't see it reaching a wide audience. Still, it held my attention as a nightmarish parody of The Apprentice, and shows quite a bit of cinematic flair."

"It’s The Apprentice with obligatory torture, and a damp squib of an ending."

"Despite their supposed cleverness, all the candidates here make mistakes that would be avoided by anybody with even the slightest knowledge of how these situations usually pan out in movies, and the whole thing gets very silly by the end. Even so, Exam scrapes a passing grade for entertainment value."
